In her Healthy Smiles blog, podcast and e-book, Healthy Mouth, Healthy Sex! Dr. Helaine Smith, a Boston, MA cosmetic dentist explains why you should care about your teeth and the connection between oral health and sexual well-being: "a topic not too many people talk about," she says.

The World Wide Wave she generated has caused her business to explode. She no longer pays for Yellow Page ads because from her social media efforts she generates between $10,000 and $15,000 a month in new business, consistently signing around twelve to fifteen new patients.

World Wide Rave on San Juan Island, WA

In 1860, a lime producing operation began to operate in what is now Lime Kiln Park. For 60 years, the area adjacent to the park was quarried for limestone and kilns were built to fire the limestone to produce lime. Buildings were built, roads were cut and much of the island was logged to feed the fires of the kilns. The U.S. Coast Guard operated the area adjacent to the lime operation as a lighthouse preserve and in 1919, the Lime Kiln lighthouse and two adjacent lighthouse keepers' quarters were built. The Coast Guard still maintains the lighthouse as an active aid to navigation, but the building is used for orca whale research, interpretation and lighthouse tours.

World Wide Rave with the New York Islanders

In an environment where many organizations are afraid of social media, the New York Islanders created what they call the blog box, providing press credentials for bloggers to attend select games. Bloggers receive a set of game notes just like those provided to regular beat reporters and broadcasters from newspaper and TV. The bloggers have a special section to sit for games, have access to team practices, and opportunities to interview players and coaches after games. This program cultivates and encourages a World Wide Rave.

World Wide Rave at Pragmatic Marketing PPM seminar

My friend Steve Johnson shot this at the Practical Product Management seminar held in Boston in December. PPM explores the role of technology product management, and provides a framework to build market-driven products. The seminar focuses on analyzing product marketing activities in detail, offering tips for how to be effective at the strategic elements and how to manage multiple tactical activities.

PPM has generated a World Wide Rave within the technology product management community, with over 40,000 professionals taking the course since 1993.

New Zealand Maori Haka and a World Wide Rave

The Haka is the traditional dance of the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. New Zealand's national rugby team, the All Blacks, perform a traditional Haka war chant prior to each match. In the rugby world, the All Blacks performing the Haka is definitely a World Wide Rave. I've seen this at the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens and can confirm that it scares the crap out of the other teams.

World Wide Rave on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts

I love Nantucket. Cisco Beach on the island’s south shore is my favorite surfing beach in the world. But there’s something special about the island in the off-season when it is quiet.

HubSpot creates a World Wide Rave

This short video was shot at the global headquarters of HubSpot, the Inbound Marketing Company. If you look carefully, you may be able to see Hubs the parrot.

HubSpot generated an amazing World Wide Rave by creating Website Grader and Twitter Grader. Each of these free tools has been used over a half million times, driving tremendous interest in HubSpot's products and services. Strong sales are the result, so it's no wonder they are smiling!

World Wide Rave at Boston University

Here's a fun World Wide Rave at Steve Quigley's New Media and Public Relations class at Boston University, College of Communication.

I've written about the class in my post The new rules at universities – authors connecting with students. Each term, the class has a (closed) Facebook group and in the past two terms, the students invited me to be a member. A few years ago the Facebook group was called "New Media Rocks my PR World" (love the name) and last term the Facebook group was called "Media Socialites" (love this name even more). Alas, this term's name is too boring to print.
